Is Hands On Equations right for my child?
Hands On Equations is the right course for your child if you can answer 'YES' to both of these questions:
Hands On Equations is perfect for students who have not yet encountered Algebra in their primary math curriculum. It is intended to provide a fun, game-like introduction to algebra.
What is Hands On Equations?
Hands On Equations is a year-long math program intended to supplement your math curriculum at home. Even if your student is years away from algebra, this whole-brain, kinesthetic approach will teach him or her how to solve 1- and 2- step algebra equations, and have fun while doing so. HOE gently, incrementally introduces the concept of an unknown and solving for X.
Hands On Equations is a great way to build confidence in math, to learn to visualize abstract mathematical concepts, and to get extra practice in math. Your child does not have to have all of his/her multiplication tables memorized to enroll in this class, although it does speed the process up. Printed multiplication tables will be provided.
Sample problems:
Lesson 1: 2x = 6
Lesson 8: If x = 4, evaluate: 3x + 4(-x) + 5
Lesson 10: 2(-x) + 3(-x) +1 = (-x) + 11 = 3(-x) -x
Lesson 25: 2(2x-4) + (-1) = 2 + 2 (-1)
