WIR2 Homework – Week 18
(as listed on the schedule in your book)
This week we begin our unit on poetry. Take some time to read through some poetry books you have at home, or from the library. Pay attention to the rhythm and sound of the words. What do you like or dislike? How does it make you feel?
Homework due January 30th includes the following:
1. Write your final final draft of your argument paper, if necessary.
2. Finish module 8.16
3. Complete: -All assignments listed for Week 18 above and on the schedule in your book.
4. Put your books and folders in our class bin (or on the counter) in the basement kitchen before first hour next Wednesday.
Notes:
When you read about Phil Loilar, what stands out to you about how he writes?
Module 9.1-9.3: What makes poetry different from prose? Be specific in your responses in 9.3.
Module 9.6: Write the first draft of your acrostic poem on your own paper.
Module 9.7:
· Fill in the rhyming chart and write your alliterative sentences on your own.
· Note the difference between consonance and assonance. Be sure to vary the vowel sounds in your consonance chart – we are just looking for words with the same final consonant sound. Likewise, vary the final consonant sound in your assonance exercise. We are just looking for the same vowel sound.
· We will compare answers in class.
Please contact me before Tuesday, if you have any questions.
“Poetry lifts the veil from the hidden beauty of the world, and makes familiar objects be as if they were not familiar.” — Percy Bysshe Shelley
“You can find poetry in your everyday life, your memory, in what people say on the bus, in the news, or just what’s in your heart.” —Carol Ann Duffy
