WIR2 Homework – Week 20
(as listed on the schedule in your book)
What an amazing start to our poetry unit. Your poems are delightful!
Homework due February 13th includes the following:
1. Finish up any incomplete work from the last two weeks. Be sure to write your second draft of your acrostic and lyrical poems!, revising for sound.
2. Memorize “The Eagle” if you have not.
3. If you haven’t sent me a copy of your argument paper yet, email it to me, or print one to bring to class next week.
Notes:
As you complete this week’s assignments, look through some poetry books to find examples of the poetic devices we are studying.
We had some confusion about consonance and assonance. Here is a summary of definitions from your book, including alliteration and rhyme, to help you:
Rhyme is the repetition of the final vowel sound plus any consonant sound that follows it in words that fall in key places in speech or poetry.
Alliteration is the repetition of the beginning sound of words, usually a consonant.
Consonance is the repetition of a consonant sound within or at the end of words that are close to each other.
Assonance is the repetition of a vowel sound in words that are close to each other.
