Week 20 Homework
Transition from Unit 4 to Unit 5
Transition from Unit 4 to Unit 5
Last Week
We were very busy in class last week and accomplished most of the work assigned for week 20 as shown in the daily schedule in the WIR book. Therefore, there is not much to do at home before class this week as long as the final draft for "My Favorite Saint" has been turned in to either Mrs. Carroll or me. In class last week we finished up Module 16 and started Module 17. This week we will be working on week 21 in class which covers most of Module 17, but we won't get through all of it.
A look Ahead
Module 17 is the beginning of Unit 5 which means we will begin working on a new writing assignment. The assignment for this unit is an autobiography. I think this is going to be a really fun writing assignment! It is the first personal narrative for WIR and I really do think the kids are going to enjoy it. They are going to create a story arc using plot and characters. They will learn to write so they hook their readers emotionally, building to a climax, and then wrapping up with the resolution. They are going to use dialogue in their personal narrative and pay attention to the voice of their writing. There is so much potential for learning with this assignment while at the same time validating the worth and importance their life. Your child's life story IS important and we want to help them convey that in this assignment. Any help you can offer in helping your child identify the important events in life so far and capturing the emotions surrounding them would be beneficial. In the midst, of all of this fun we will have yet another grammar workshop as we do in every unit. The focus this unit is on prepositional phrases. This unit will take us past spring break and my hope is that your child really embraces it and has fun telling "their story".
Homework - if you were in class on Feb 27
- If not already completed, turn in your final draft of "My Favorite Saint"
- Read the expert models on pages 340-342
- Using the expert models, start reflecting on your life story and formulating ideas
Homework - if you missed class on Feb 27
- If not already completed, turn in your final draft of "My Favorite Saint"
- Complete the rubric on pages 322-323
- Complete the unit review on pages 324-326
- Ensure that everything on the Module 16 checklist (pages 327-329) is complete
- Read the Spotlight on pages 330-334
- Read the Introduction to Unit 5 on pages 335-337 (Do NOT complete the rubric, just study it)
- Read 17.1-17.3 on pages 338-339
- Read the expert models on pages 340-342
- Using the expert models, start reflecting on your life story and formulating ideas
As you can see, the homework is mostly just reading this week. In fact, there is not any writing assigned this week if you were in class and have your final draft turned in. However, if you were not able to be in class last week there is a small amount of written work assigned, but the majority of the assigned work is reading. So curl up in a cozy spot, enjoy reading, and starting thinking of ideas for your personal narrative:)
Please let me know if you have any questions.
