WIR2 Homework – Week 22
(as listed on the schedule in your book)
Homework due February 27th includes the following:
So far you have written acrostic, lyric, haiku, and cinquain poems, and you are learning how to revise them for sound, rhythm and meaning.
1. Watch the videos below. Take a look at the poems you have written, and see how you can further revise them for sound, rhythm, and meter.
2. Take a closer look at your poems. Are there extra words which add nothing to the feel or meaning of the poem which could be eliminated? Revise your poems to eliminate extra words as necessary.
3. Do the words in your poems describe sights, sounds, tastes, smells, or feelings? Are there words which could be replaced with other more specific nouns, verbs, adjectives, or adverbs? Revise your poems to paint a clearer picture, or to evoke an emotion.
4. Complete all of the assignments shown for week 22 on the schedule above, and on the weekly schedule in your book.
5. Inspect your poems to see that your pronouns have clear antecedents, and that you are using a consistent point of view.
6. Share your poems with your family. Ask them to read your poems aloud, or read them aloud yourself to your family.
